Inka Rusi is a film director, producer and writer who works across narrative and documentary film and series. Her directing work often explores complicated power dynamics within relationships and the effects of being othered told through morally complex stories.
Inka graduated from the California institute of the Arts Film Program in Los Angeles with an MFA in Film Directing in 2020. She is a Fulbright and Thanks To Scandinavia Scholar. Her thesis film BIND (2021) a psychological thriller drama from was selected to 2021 CAA Moebius Showcase.
She started her career in film production working in various positions on international feature films, series and documentaries on productions such as LAUGH OR DIE(YLE), EMERGENCY CALL (YLE) THE DEVIL’S BRIDE(Netflix), GAME OF THRONES (HBO)as well as on commercial productions for clients such as British ELLE, C-More and MTV3.
She was the creative producer on the feature length documentary film BRAINWASHED:SEX-CAMERA-POWER,executive produced by Tim Disney and Abigail Disney that premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2022 and went on to screen at festivals such as The Berlinale Panorama, CPH:DOX, The BFI Film festival and IDFA.
Born into a diplomatic family in New York, Inka co-founded Onerva Pictures along with her sister Tanja with the ambition to create a home for international film projects with a strong emphasis on personal and character-driven storylines.
She is a member of The Finnish Film Director’s Guild.
